2015 DOUBLE CANYON HORSE HEAVEN HILLS CABERNET SAUVIGNON WASHINGTON STATE
When I taste a new wine, color is the first thing I notice, followed by the bouquet which should pique my interest and compel me to want to taste it. Then on the palate, the finish is what always brings me back for more… But it’s what’s in-between that can really take a wine to the next level, and I’m not talking about the individual flavors. When a wine is texturally appealing with a mouth quenching opulence and soft, supple layers, it’s really easy to love… Double Canyon’s 2015 Cabernet from Horse Heaven Hills in Washington State has these very intriguing characteristics. We tasted this wine without knowing the price, and I would have pegged it in the $40 range and when I found out it was $23, I couldn’t wait to share it with you.
The two varietals that Washington State is best known for are Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah and I believe the combination of the two, along with winemaking techniques played a large roll in this wine’s palate quenching texture that highlighted our tasting. We also weren’t the only ones that enjoyed it… Both Robert Parker’s The Wine Advcoate and James Suckling rated the 2015 90 Points. At less than twenty five bucks, I strongly recommend lassoing a case.

"Ripe mulberries and plums with a fresh earthy thread leading to a palate that has a very succulent, even and juicy mouthfeel. Mocha oak chimes in amid a wood-grained finish. Drink or hold."
"The keenly priced 2015 Horse Heaven Hills Cabernet Sauvignon burst from the glass with a dramatic bouquet of ripe cherries, sweet berry liqueur and loamy soil. On the palate, it's medium-bodied and generous, with an ample core of ripe fruit, good balancing acids and ripe but youthfully chewy tannins..."
