Chateau Montlabert is a classic, regional blend of 80% Merlot complemented with 20% Cabernet Franc grown in unique terroir composed of deep, sandy gravel and siliceous clay with veins of the same, famous blue clay present in Petrus’ vineyards. The Castel family acquired the chateau in 2008, and eager to elevate the quality of the wines, hired Hubert de Boüard of Chateau Angelus as their winemaking consultant.
The estate tends to their impressive 25-year-old sustainably farmed vines like a garden with precision, detail, and care. They ferment in small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation in barrel, providing seamless integration between the fruit and oak with a plush, velvety texture.
