2015 POGGIO BONELLI POGGIASSAI SUPER TUSCAN
$39.99 $39.99
Some of the best wines resulted from winemakers taking risks. Winemakers in Tuscany created the category of Super Tuscans because they were fed-up with tight restrictions and limits set by the Italian winemaking authority, and they wanted to make something better. Antinori was first when he created the 1971 Tignanello, and after decades of Super Tuscan wines competing on the world stage, the legal system created the IGT designation, which allows Tuscan winemakers creativity in blending non-indigenous grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Syrah. A great example is Poggiassai, and at under $40, you have to try this 94 point Super Tuscan.
Poggio Bonelli’s 2015 Poggiassai combines 75% Sangiovese, and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from a hillside parcel on their Estate where breezes and air circulation, allows the grapes to maintain acids. The winery is located in Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena, and has been around since the Middle Ages.
This stunning blend emerges from Tuscany’s best vintage in nearly two decades. One the Wine Spectator rated 97 Points referencing “Long-lived, powerful and concentrated reds, yet the best have purity and elegance…”
