Duckhorn might be best known for Merlot, with their first vintage in 1978, but they’ve also been making Pinot Noir in the late 90s, and their Pinots are gaining some serious momentum. In 1997 they produced their first vintage of Goldeneye, which is a paragon in Anderson Valley, and in 2001 they introduced Migration, which focuses on cool-climate regions, highlighting lush fruit, bright acidity, and impeccable balance. They also recently purchased Kosta Browne and Calera, so needless to say, they’ve become a powerhouse in high-quality Pinot Noir production.
The 2017 Migration Pinot Noir took flight from strategically chosen, cool-climate sites along the Sonoma Coast, and each near the Pacific Ocean. The winery also produces a handful of single-vineyard Pinots from iconic vineyards like Dutton Ranch, which retail for nearly double the price of the Sonoma Coast.
