2018 ANTHEM MOUNT VEEDER NAPA VALLEY CABERNET SAUVIGNON

Structured, with grip and length, this wine is ripe and rich in style with tremendous tannins. Chalky in texture, it provides layers of cassis, vanilla and clove, with the mountain appellation’s signature earthiness and herbal underrates. This will do well to cellar; enjoy best from 2028–2038.”

95 Points ‘Cellar Selection’

Richly fruity, with a deep well of boysenberry, fig and blackberry compote notes that won’t quit, pumping along while licorice, fruitcake and ganache notes fill in. This has a roasted apple wood frame and a late tug of cast iron, which keep it all grounded. Best from 2024 through 2036…”

2019 MT. BRAVE MT. VEEDER MERLOT

Aromas of violets and blackberries with some black olives follow through to a full-bodied palate with finesse, polish and great length. Velvety tannins. Incredible finish. Great class here. Drinkable now, but better to hold for about five or six years.”

2019 STAGLIN FAMILY VINEYARD SALUS ESTATE CABERNET SAUVIGNON

a man holding a glass of wine
The Salus Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 begins with a focused nose of dark berries, elegant florals, and light spice. The concentrated, lush, delineated fruit flavors on the palate include powerful black currants, juicy blackberries, briary boysenberries, and ripe bing cherries. Complex notes of pencil lead, French lavender, dusty baker’s chocolate, fresh rosemary, and light vanilla spice soon follow. The intensity of fruit, plush, long finish, and slightly dusty tannins allow immediate enjoyment of this Cab but promise over a decade of beautiful drinking in this sweet spot.”

2018 ACUMEN PEAK ATLAS PEAK CABERNET SAUVIGNON

logo
“The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Peak showed nicely, with beautiful blue fruits, scorched earth, licorice, and violet aromas and flavors. With medium to full-bodied richness, it stays tight and compact on the palate, with a fresh, Bordeaux-like style in its tannins and acidity. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age but should age nicely on its purity and elegance.”

2019 GOLDENEYE GOWAN CREEK VINEYARD ANDERSON VALLEY PINOT NOIR

An impressive vintage bolsters this wine’s already stellar reputation. Following scents of nutmeg, cardamom, and watermelon rind, the earthy liquid spreads across the palate, anchored by animale, plum, heather, wet soil, and gingerbread. Cinnamon takes shape on the mid-palate with candied yam, iron, and rhubarb. Exotic and profound.”
97 Points
“A dried-floral nose with notes of coffee, ripe strawberry and sage. Medium-to full-bodied with a cool profile of redcurrants and ripe raspberries. Silky tannins. A pleasant lavender note, too. Really well layered and complex with balance and precision. Drink or hold.”
95 Points
This sleek and subtle wine offers great balance, classic aromas and flavors and a good sense of structure that will help it improve over time. Concentrated but restrained red and black cherries, black currants, mint and light oak spices give it plenty to savor, and should develop even more from 2025.”

2015 RUFFINO GREPPONE MAZZI BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO

text
Ripe plums with some cherries, toffee and cedar on the nose. Changes to flowers. Complex. It’s full-bodied with a deep, rich-fruit and tannin structure with just the right complement of firm tannins and ripe fruit. Very long and serious. Best from here in a very long time. Better after 2023.”
95 Points

A textbook Sangiovese, featuring cherry, strawberry, iron, earth and tobacco flavors, with hints of leather and licorice. Brawny yet well-integrated, remaining lively on the long, savory aftertaste. Best from 2023 through 2043.
